Can I Keep Just One Chicken?

Can you just keep one chicken I should you have more?

Can I keep just one chicken or will it fret? One of the great things about chickens is their versatility. They are also an independent animal and often like to be on their own. Therefore, it is OK to keep just one chicken because she will happily go on doing what she has done in the past and is programmed to do in the future – eat, scratch, dust bath, and lay eggs.

From my observations, there are hens which do like company more than others but in general they will get by without a buddy (similar to other pets). So, if it's just one hen you want or need for company yourself or a few omelettes a week then give one hen a good home; however, if you possibly can accommodate more than one chicken then two hens are always better than one…
