Chicken Pen Design Using Natural Landscape

The above video is just a quick demonstration about how a chicken pen can become blended into the surroundings to give it a more natural look. A more natural pen closer to nature is easier on the eyes and keeps the chickens happier.

Of course, this method of housing chickens (and other poultry) is not always possible in every backyard; however, there are many things we can do no matter where our chickens are kept, to make the design blend into the surroundings better. Things like:

  • using recycled materials (wood, logs, etc);
  • incorporating the chicken pen as a feature rather than hiding it in a corner of the yard;
  • Planting shrubs and trees around and in the pen; and
  • Using natural materials as part of the pen structure (like trees for posts).
